Terms of Use

Last updated: July 29, 2026

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the SumGPT Chrome extension and the sumgpt.app website (collectively, the "Services"). By using the Services, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms.

If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not use the Services. These Terms are binding on all visitors and registered users.

We may revise these Terms from time to time. Changes take effect upon posting. For material changes, we will provide notice through the Services or via email. Continued use of the Services after changes means you accept the updated Terms.

1. Scope and Purpose of the Service

1.1. Service Description

SumGPT is a Chrome browser extension that automatically generates structured notes and quizzes from YouTube lecture videos. The extension retrieves video transcripts (captions) and processes them using third-party AI services, primarily OpenAI. Your notes and quiz results are stored on Supabase infrastructure and synced across your devices.

SumGPT is a learning aid only. Our Services:

  • Do not replace watching the actual lectures. You must watch the videos and learn the material yourself.
  • Do not guarantee 100% accuracy of generated notes or quiz answers. AI-generated content may contain errors or omissions.
  • Do not guarantee exam success or grade improvement.
  • Do not constitute professional academic advising or educational services.

1.2. Credit System and Paid Features

SumGPT operates on a credit-based system. New accounts receive a complimentary allocation of free credits upon sign-up, allowing users to try the service at no cost. Each note generation and quiz generation consumes credits from your account balance.

When your free credits are exhausted, you may purchase additional credit packages through the sumgpt.app website. Credit purchases are processed by third-party payment providers and are subject to the pricing and terms displayed at the time of purchase. Credits are non-refundable except where required by applicable law.

We reserve the right to modify credit costs, free credit allocations, and pricing at any time. Changes will be communicated through the Services or via email before taking effect on your next purchase.

1.3. Service Availability

We reserve the right to modify, temporarily suspend, or permanently discontinue the Services at any time, with or without notice. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. Factors beyond our control — such as YouTube infrastructure changes, OpenAI API outages, or Supabase service disruptions — may affect Service availability.

2. User Obligations

2.1. Compliance with YouTube's Terms

SumGPT integrates with the YouTube platform. You are responsible for complying with YouTube's Terms of Service and Community Guidelines while using SumGPT. Using SumGPT in a way that violates YouTube's terms is prohibited. SumGPT is not affiliated with or endorsed by YouTube — it is an independent third-party extension.

2.2. Copyright and Intellectual Property

The content of lecture videos published on YouTube may be protected by copyright held by the video creators (instructors, institutions). As a SumGPT user:

  • Notes generated by SumGPT may only be used for personal learning purposes.
  • You may not reproduce, distribute, publish, or commercially exploit generated notes without permission from the video owner or relevant institution.
  • You are responsible for complying with your university, school, or instructor's course material usage policies.
  • You must ensure that generating notes from a lecture does not violate the policies of the instructor or institution providing that lecture.

2.3. Academic Integrity

SumGPT is designed to support your learning — not to enable academic dishonesty or cheating. The following behaviors are strictly prohibited:

  • Substituting SumGPT-generated notes or quiz answers for your own work on exams or assignments.
  • Uploading exam questions or assessment materials to SumGPT to solicit answers.
  • Sharing SumGPT outputs in ways that violate your institution's academic integrity policies.
  • Presenting generated content as your own original work (plagiarism).

If we detect an academic integrity violation, we reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account. We also reserve the right to cooperate with the relevant educational institution and share account information.

2.4. Prohibited Uses

When using our Services, the following behaviors are strictly prohibited:

  • Using the Services for illegal, harmful, threatening, harassing, discriminatory, or rights-infringing purposes.
  • Using automated tools (bots, scripts, crawlers) to manipulate or overload the Services.
  • Attempting to circumvent security measures or reverse-engineer the Services.
  • Using another person's account without authorization or attempting to obtain their credentials.
  • Distributing viruses, malware, or similar harmful elements to or through the Services.
  • Using the Services to develop a competing product or service.

3. Account Security and Responsibility

3.1. Account Creation

You must create an account to use SumGPT. You agree to provide accurate, complete, and current information during registration. Accounts created with misleading or false information may be terminated.

Our Services are not intended for users under 16. If you are under 16, you may only use the Services with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian.

3.2. Account Security

You are responsible for safeguarding your account credentials (email, password). All activity conducted through your account is considered your responsibility. If you become aware of unauthorized access, contact us immediately. We are not liable for damages resulting from compromised account security, unless caused by our own fault.

3.3. Account Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account without prior notice in the following cases:

  • Violation of these Terms.
  • Engaging in illegal or fraudulent activities.
  • Behavior that infringes upon the rights of others.
  • Extended inactivity (no usage in the past 12 months).

You may terminate your account at any time through the extension settings or by contacting us. Upon termination, your data will be deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

4. Intellectual Property Rights

All elements of SumGPT — including the extension, website, logo, design, software code, and user interface ("SumGPT Content") — are our intellectual property. These Terms grant you no ownership or license rights over SumGPT Content, only a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Services in accordance with these Terms.

Notes and quiz results you create through the Services ("User Content") belong to you. However, you acknowledge that we have the right to process, store, and analyze User Content to deliver and improve the Services. This right is limited to the operation and improvement of the Services.

You may provide feedback, suggestions, or comments about the Services ("Feedback"). You agree that Feedback is non-confidential and may be used by us without compensation or attribution obligation.

5. Privacy

The processing of your personal data is governed by our Privacy Policy. By using the Services, you agree to the data practices described in the Privacy Policy, which forms an integral part of these Terms.

6. Third-Party Services

SumGPT uses the following third-party services:

  • OpenAI: AI processing for note and quiz generation.
  • Supabase: User authentication and data storage.
  • Google: Google OAuth sign-in and YouTube platform integration.

Use of these third-party services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies. SumGPT is not responsible for disruptions, changes, or termination of these services. YouTube is a trademark of Google Inc. SumGPT has no official affiliation with YouTube or Google.

7. Limitation of Liability

SumGPT Services are provided "as is" and "as available." SumGPT makes no warranties, express or implied, regarding uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or fitness-for-purpose operation of the Services.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, SumGPT is not liable for:

  • Errors, omissions, or inaccuracies in AI-generated notes or quiz content.
  • Direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use or inability to use the Services.
  • Disruptions caused by changes or outages in YouTube, OpenAI, Supabase, or other third-party services.
  • Issues arising from incorrect or incomplete information provided by you.
  • Damages resulting from account security breaches caused by your own fault.
  • Your infringement of third-party intellectual property rights through use of the Services.

In any event, SumGPT's total liability is limited to the total fees you have paid to us in the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the claim. If you have not made any payments (e.g., you are using only the free allocation of credits), this limitation will be interpreted as the lowest applicable legal threshold.

IMPORTANT: Some jurisdictions do not allow limitations of liability or exclusion of certain warranties. In such cases, the above limitations may not apply to you and will be enforced only to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law.

8. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify SumGPT, its affiliates, employees, and service providers against any claims, lawsuits, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your violation of these Terms or applicable laws. SumGPT reserves the right to assume the defense of any matter requiring indemnification, in which case you agree to cooperate reasonably.

9. Dispute Resolution and Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Turkey, without regard to conflict of law principles.

For any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the Services, the parties shall first attempt to resolve the matter amicably. If resolution is not achieved, Istanbul Central (Çağlayan) Courts and Enforcement Offices shall have exclusive jurisdiction.

For users qualifying as consumers, the jurisdiction of consumer arbitration boards and consumer courts under applicable consumer protection laws is preserved.

10. General Provisions

Waiver: Our failure to enforce any provision of these Terms does not constitute a waiver of that provision or any other right.

Severability: If any provision of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, the remaining provisions remain in full effect.

Assignment: We may assign our rights and obligations under these Terms with or without notice to you. You may not assign your rights or obligations without our written consent.

Force Majeure: We are not liable for Service interruptions caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including natural disasters, war, terrorism, epidemics, fire, earthquake, government actions, internet infrastructure failures, and similar circumstances.

Entire Agreement: These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding your use of the Services.
